UWNEMN's Buddy Backpacks program provides a backpack filled with nutritious, nonperishable, child-friendly food items to children who are at-risk of going hungry without school lunch and breakfast. The program provides nourishment every weekend and holiday break of the school year so that they can come back to school ready to learn, grow, and thrive. Students are enrolled directly by school staff with permission from parents/caregivers at home and also receive an annual package of hygiene items.



This school year, UWNEMN will rely on volunteers to help us pack more than 30,000 food kits for local children at-risk of hunger.

All packing sessions are from 2-3:30 pm unless otherwise noted and will take place at UWNEMN's building (608 East Drive, Chisholm MN 55719).

Packing Buddy Backpacks is a great individual volunteer opportunity, perfect team-building experience, and great fit for families.



Volunteer Guidelines



• Volunteers must be 12 or older to participate.
• Closed-toe, comfortable shoes or boots are required.
• Job duties will be pre-assigned. If you have any concerns, please contact Michelle at michelle@unitedwaynemn.org.
• Please do not campaign or solicit for other programs or organizations during volunteer sessions. We ask that everyone keep their focus on the true goal of Buddy Backpacks - increasing youth opportunity while building healthier and more resilient communities.
